Special days can be sweet misery at times, especially when you’re expecting high and your lover gives you something that’s totally repulsive! So what do you do to hide disappointment and put up a simpering face? Here’s all you need to know. But just don’t forget to tell your sweetie that you didn’t like the gift very much. Or you might just end up getting another sad gift the next year! But do it three months later, not today.

SMILEY TIPS

Look Happy and Sappy!

Look excited even before you unwrap the gift, but don’t let your smile drop down into a frown, whatever the gift may be. Prepare yourself and keep that smile up.

Just Shout Out!

The best way to hide disappointment is to just exclaim something. Your mate would expect you to like it, so whatever you say, they’re going to assume and hope that it’s with happiness. So a “Whooo, look at this! It is so cool/sweet!” is a perfect way to use the first ten seconds.

Just Name It Again!

Turn the gift all around and pretend like you’re looking at it in awe. And just read out the name or the brand written on the gift. Maybe you could also read out a few facts that are written on it, or just “admire” it. You can hug your sweetheart and thank them for being so sweet!

What Is That?

If you don’t know what the gift is, then just say something about it, and wait for your lover to excitedly describe more about it. “Wow, this is so awesome!” is a good line to use while you look around and try and figure what it does. Surely, your sweetie would go into details by then.

Compliment the Gift

You’ve said all that you’ve wanted to say to please your mate, but you still haven’t said anything about the gift itself. Say something like “it’s so sleek”, or “I have never had anything like this before…”

Don’t Break Hearts

It can be a real let-down, when you get a gift you don’t like, from a person who knows you best, on special days. But think about it, it wasn’t like your partner wanted to make sure that they’d give you something you detest. So don’t go breaking their heart.

Please Don’t Stop the Smiling

It’s hard to keep the grin up when you’re upset about your gift, but it’s a special day, right? Keep smiling and keep your voice pleasant. Just imagine how you would have behaved if you would have got a really nice gift, and try to behave that way.

Make a Wish List

If you’ve already experienced a bad gift scenario during your last special day, make a wish list so they know exactly what you want this year. If you don’t want to say it straight out, you could drop hints a few weeks or days before D-day, and hope they take your partner.

Try Me, I Tell Thee!

If you’ve unwrapped the gift and they want you to try it on or use it, especially when you’re supposed to go out, you could just smile giddily, smack your mate on the palm, and say something like “Are you mad? This is so special, I wouldn’t want to use it just now. I’ll use it after I’ve spent enough time with it!” Now that should work!

Don’t Bitch About It

You may be waiting to vent your frustrations out, and may end up calling your best pal and telling them all about your abysmal gift. But don’t. You know how words spread these days. You can always tell your mate yourself a few months later, but if your lover hears about it from someone else, they’d be really hurt!
