How to Pick the Perfect Date Restaurant

Have you been restaurant-hopping all the time trying to find that perfect date restaurant? You may not have actually figured out what exactly you wanted in a restaurant, but with this guide, all you need to do is just walk into a restaurant to know if it’s worth your datey attention!

Bon Appétit

Sushi anyone? Or sick on the floor? Not everyone prefers your… what was it… ‘your passion for interesting food’? So think twice before heading out to surprise your date-mate with chopsticks and Takoyaki, which is burnt octopus (balls?). Most romantic restaurants serve good food, and excellent cuisines. Our pick for mushy food is definitely Italian or Mediterranean, and a glass of divine wine.

Comfort

No, no, we’re not talking about plush interiors only. Are you comfortable with the place you’re going out on a date? There are a few restaurants that can have your sweat pores working full throttle, and a few places where every single person knows you by your first name. Opt for none of them. Pick a place both of you would like, one that makes your face brighten up the second you walk in.

Lighting

Everyone likes good lighting. Good lighting makes both of you look good. A dentist’s torchlight can be great in his clinic, but not at a restaurant. You don’t want to sit down under the scorching lights of a brightly lit room, waiting to pick flaws in each other. Choose a restaurant with mellow, soft lights that look great on your skin. You should be able to see your food well too.

Service

As soon as you walk into a restaurant, is there someone to greet you with a warm smile, and escort you to your table? Good. But not good enough. If you have to pick a date restaurant, the service has to be extremely warm, prompt and efficient. And don’t forget, waiters don’t just waltz near your table and stand idle in a good restaurant, not unless you’ve called them. And they don’t slide. Want to test them? Hold a cigarette in your lip for three seconds. If a waiter doesn’t zip up to you and light it by then, you’re in the wrong restaurant!

Ka Ching!

The little pincher, eh? Well, this one is all up to you, isn’t it? And it’s quite important too. Most restaurants that excel in all the finer details come with a price, so it’s all about how deep your pockets are. But not to worry, there are several restaurants that can qualify for the perfect romantic restaurant, and yet, not pinch you too hard. Take a look around the corner, you might just find it.

Loud!

Have you used signboards to communicate on a date? Or was there a mass murdering death metal Manson look-alike band throwing people around? Pick a restaurant that has soft music, even if not mush. When you talk let the soft textures accentuate your conversations, instead of blotting it. Good, soft music will always accentuate the romance in the air!

Ambience

Everyone likes to dine in a great restaurant. And fairytales wouldn’t be called fairytales if not for the props and the romantic mist. So you know the drill. Take your date out to a restaurant that boasts of a theme. A waterfall, a cove, or is it a beach? Take your pick, but there’s nothing like good ambience to make a date feel wonderful.

Privacy

If you want to have a great time with your date, you need your privacy. Walls and equisite curtains are mush adders, but that’s not it. Privacy also includes the chef, managers, and other diners not butting in or craning necks at you all the time. Don’t go looking for private cabins, but do pick a restaurant where privacy is spelt out in bold.

  1. Takoyaki are little balls of dough stuffed with a small piece of octopus and then deep-fried. I don’t know where you come from, but fried does not equal burnt.

  2. Or if you know how to cook, invite the girl over to your house for dinner and cook your best dish. This works to your advantage in a couple of ways. First you save money obviously, second the girl is already at your house and most importantly, cooking the dinner yourself shows that you have a skill. Girls love guys who can cook.
